Gylfie, Twilight, Digger, Otulissa, Ruby, Martin, and Eglantine, also known as the Chaw of Chaws, wept. For even if they were all almost as white as Snowies, they still had awhile to live. But for Soren, the Band’s leader, and the King at the Great Ga’hoole Tree, he was older than the rest. His time has came. Pelli, Soren’s mate, was standing over him. Soren’s breathing was labored, but he managed to lift a wing, touch his mate’s face, and whisper these words:  “I love you, Pelli. No matter what…I will always love you…forever,” he hoarsely spoke.
Gylfie, Soren’s best friend, hopped over to him, and a tear fell from her eye on his chest. “Soren, you can’t go! Not yet! The…the Band still needs you! We need you to lead the Chaw of Chaws. Don’t die…” As she said that, the rest of the Band walked up to him.
Soren looked around at his best friends:  Gylfie, the little owl he met when they were captured at St. Aggie’s, Twilight, the free flier, who was raised in the Orphan School of Tough Learning, and Digger, the owl who seemed odd at first, but he’d gotten to like him.
Twilight spoke, “No matter what, we’ll always be your friends.” The rest of the Band nodded.
Digger cocked his head, “Remember the good times we spent together? Before we came to the tree?” He paused. “Well, they were the best times ever.”
Gylfie touched Soren on his beak, and whispered something in his ear. “I love you…” Then she stepped away.
Soren felt only peace, as he was surrounded by his best friends, his mate, and the Chaw of Chaws. He heard the beautiful voice of Madame Plonk’s great granddaughter, Madame Grenel, as she was singing on of her songs she made up:

                                 On this beautiful night,
                                  Our faithful king lay.
On his deathbed, is he surrounded by his best friends.
                                  Glaumora is nigh,
For tonight he will join those owls too,
                              May he rest in peace…..
                                          Forever.

Soren was getting weaker, and weaker, until he could hardly speak, but he spoke something so soft that everyone had to gather around to hear what he was saying.
“My time has come, your’s is still going. May I someday see you guys in glaumora, when you join the owl heaven. Goodbye…my….” But he never finished what he was going to say. His voice broke. He couldn’t talk anymore. The last thing he heard was the beautiful voice of Madame Grenel.

Our king is laid to rest,
                                             In glaumora…

He felt his body becoming lighter, lighter, until he couldn’t feel it anymore. He opened his eyes, and he was outside the great tree. Looking at himself, he was a spirit. Now to find my way to glaumora. He lifted off into the air, looking for the spirit trail to owl heaven, where he’ll be able to see Ezylryb again, and even his nephew Coryn. He sought a sparkly, star lighted trail, and followed it. The next thing he knew, he was in glaumora, where he could see many spirits of owls, some of them looking very familiar. A Spotted Owl was on a white tree not to far from where he was. Is that Strix Struma? Yes, I can tell be her markings. But he didn’t worry. He was looking for his friends. He flew around, around, and still hadn’t found them, but did find Cody and Namara, who died awhile ago, beside a misty volcano. He nodded, and they nodded back, for they remembered him even in death.
Soren flew around, finding a very familiar looking Spotted Owl, maybe from the legends? No, it can’t be! Strix Emerilla! And…and Strix Strumajen! Well, I guess glaumora isn’t all bad, he thought to himself. Finally, after many nights, so it seemed, he found a Whiskered Screech owl, whom looked very much like Ezylryb, his beloved mentor.
   “Ezylryb?” he called out.
   The owl looked up.
“Soren, young’un! By Glaux, you’re here, in glaumora!” he lofted into the air, from where he was reading a book from a library in glaumora.
“Oh, I’ve missed you sooooo much!” he flew around Ezylryb.
“I’ve looked down from glaumora, and saw that you defeated Nyra, and the Pure Ones. I guess the legends really did help after all. Now, I can tell you’re looking for someone…..Coryn?” he flipped his head almost at a three hundred and sixty degree angle. Soren looked to where Ezylryb was, and saw an owl flying toward them. By Glaux, it was Coryn, and he was being followed by a Spotted Owl, King Hoole himself. A lot of other owls were following him. He saw Theo, the first blacksmith, Grank, the first collier, H’rath, Hoole’s father, Siv, Hoole’s mother, and Phineas, Hoole’s best friend. All the character’s from the legends! They lofted down near a very large tree, much like the great tree itself.
“King Hoole? It’s…it’s really you?” Soren gasped, glaring into the eyes of the first king of the great tree.
“Yes, it is I, first king of the Great Ga’Hoole Tree. I know that you were once one too, I assume?” he replied.
Coryn stepped forward, lowering his head, and hugged his uncle. “Soren, it’s really you! I’ve missed you so much!” Then he stepped backward, in order for Grank, Theo, Siv, and H’rath to step forward.
“So, you’re the first collier? I’ve read about you in legends,” Soren hooted.
“Ahh….but those legends were real,” Grank answered in a wise tone.
Siv stepped forward. “I was the queen of the N’yrthghar, or the Northern Kingdom’s you know call them now,” she said and stepped back.
The biggest Spotted Owl Soren had ever seen stepped forward, addressing his name in a deep tone, “King Soren , I am H’rath, former king of the N’yrthghar.” Then all of them stepped back, flew into the air, to let Soren and Coryn have some alone time.
“Hey, Soren, come here. I’ll show you somewhere special where you can look into the world, so you can see your friends.” He showed Soren the way.
When they got there, they were in a big clearing, and in that clearing was a hole, where several owls perched, looking down into it.
   “What’s this?” Soren asked, confused.
“This,” he stepped forward. “is what we owl’s call the Ever See Hole, where we can look down on the kingdom’s and see our friends, or places we’ve left behind. This is how I knew you were coming. I watched you.”
Soren peered into the hole, and slowly the image of Gylfie, Twilight, Digger, Otulissa, Ruby, Martin, and Eglantine appeared. They were on the branch of the tree where Soren and the Band usually hung out after a long day’s work.

Gylfie perched under the wing of Twilight, to shield her from the wind.
“I wonder if Soren made it to glaumora yet…,” she quietly said.
Digger padded up to her, comforting her with words of wisdom. “I know he did. What unfinished business do you think he had left? I think none. I’m sure he’s watching us now…waiting for us to join him together in glaumora.” He churned softly.
“Yeah, “ Twilight spoke up. “Well, you can probably guess that he’s happy. He is with Coryn, Ezylryb, and my Glaux, he’ll even see the character’s from the legends!” He spread his wings, nearly knocking Gylfie over.
   “Hey, watch it!” she screeched.
The entire Chaw of Chaw’s looked to the star’s, and saw a constellation of a Barn Owl, who resembled Soren.
“Well, there you go,” Digger spoke up. “Now we know that Soren is in glaumora, where he is now happy.”

This was written just like the author, the details were amazing. It's just when it's after all is said and done, someone decides to let the main character, who has gone through so much, die. This made me sad, to think that such an important character dies, even though it's just old age. But it comes naturally, to die. It's just that you don't expect a main charcter to just slip away right in front of all of the others, as in the case...

The beginning especially had me in tears and that is something that is very hard to to do with fanfictions. I can't name any other fanfiction that has done that to me.

Also, in one of the Wolves of the Beyond books (a sequel/spinoff sequels of Guardians of Ga'Hoole), it is said that Gwynneth, daughter of Gwyndor, sees Soren's scroom), but when an owl's scroom is seen that means they have unfinished business. So the most likely reason was Soren had to have been murdered by what few Pure Ones were still alive, and only one we never knew the fate of was Ginger from The Shattering.
